The following folks will be leading focused break out group discussions:
Gary Small
This breakout group will function as a public forum for Gary, and the youth with whom he works to share some of the challenges and opportunities for change while navigating their community. Mr. Small received his Bachelor of Applied Science in Criminal Justice Studies in 2007 from the University of Guelph-Humber. He then went on to receive his Masters in Education from York University in 2010. In June 2012, he completed his Ontario Teaching Certificate, specializing in Canadian Law and Social Studies. He is currently a part-time faculty instructor at Humber College, where he teaches: Canadian Criminal Justice System, Criminology and Introduction to the Practicum Experience. Furthermore, Gerry has guest lectured at York University for the Teacher’s College Program, where he discussed the impact of generational power, privilege, and discrimination on education. Aside from his experience in the post-secondary education field, Mr. Small is also a job developer at the YMCA, where he works with youth who require employment support. Lastly, Mr. Small values and engages in a creative, transformational and experiential style of teaching that provides a space to deepen his communities understanding of social systems, social behaviours, and anti-oppressive, anti-racist and anti-discriminatory practices.
